Anambra State : Success story from The Ministry of Agriculture

Anambra State Ministry of Agriculture in partnership with the International Fund for Agriculture Development IFAD has set up mini irrigation rice farms at Anaku, Ayamelum LGA for farmers in cooperatives. These farms have successfully commenced dry season cultivation of rice and is going to triple the yield on that farm as the cultivation will be done all year round. This will further increase the rice production in Anambra State.
The Anambra/ IFAD partnership supported these farmers with access road, irrigation facilities powered by 9 tube boreholes, technical training and management.
This project was unveiled during the visit of the IFAD world president Dr Kanayo Nwanze to Anambra State. The people of Anaku showed their appreciation by giving chieftaincy titles to the IFAD world president and his Nigeria management staff.
The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nkem Okeke, while hosting the IFAD team to a dinner, called on the Ministry of Agriculture to work harder to replicate such projects and  ensure effective collaboration with IFAD.
