Press Release: Kate Osamor MP appointed junior Shadow Minister for Women & Equalities.

Delegation of UK MPs of Nigerian heritage welcomed by HE High Commissioner Dr Tafida

Kate Osamor MP has been appointed to the Labour Front Bench and will take up the position of junior Shadow Minister for Women & Equalities.
Kate Osamor MP was newly elected in May 2015 and has consistently used her voice as an MP to speak out for the most vulnerable in society; using her speeches in debates to highlight the impact policies will have on BME communities and working-class women. She has been actively involved in campaigning against Yarl’s Wood Immigration Detention Centre: she visited the centre in November 2015 and led a debate on healthcare in Yarl’s Wood at the beginning of this month.
She will join Shadow Women & Equalities spokesperson Kate Green MP, Cat Smith MP and Baroness Morgan.
Speaking on the subject, Kate says:
“I was delighted to accept this position. Since I joined the House of Commons, I have been seeking to highlight in the Chamber the disproportionate effect many government policies have had on BME communities and working-class women.
I am looking forward to adding my voice to a strong team and working together to hold the government to account on equality issues.”
The women and equalities team stated:
The women and equalities team are very pleased to welcome new junior Shadow Minister Kate Osamor MP. Women and Equalities is a priority for this Labour administration and we are delighted to have the extra capacity in the team to take forward the equalities agenda.”
