The Managing Director of Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), Mr Philip Chinwuba, says Governor Willie Obiano will lead government officials and other stakeholders on sanitation in the state this Saturday.

Addressing journalists in Awka, Mr Chinwuba said that Governor Willie Obiano takes the issue of the environmental sanitation seriously hence move to re-awaken the consciousness of Ndi Anambra towards environmental cleanliness.

Mr Chinwuba regretted that most inhabitants of the state, dump refuse in drainages believing that water will flush it out when it rains and thereby cause more havoc to the environment and appealed to residents of the state to clear their homes and surroundings thoroughly on Saturday and bring them out to their various streets as ASWAMA has enough manpower to evacuate them properly.

The ASWAMA boss urged community leaders, the church, Professional bodies, para-military and Schools among others to come out en-mass on that day to participate in the exercise.

He warned tipper drivers that evacuate waste from construction sites to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse as any driver caught will pay a fine of one hundred thousand naira and equally face prosecution while individual defaulters will pay between ten and twenty thousand naira respectively depending on the volume of waste.

Mr Chinwuba disclosed that the agency has put up a handsome reward for anybody who will catch or snap a defaulter and sent to them and appealed to Ndi Anambra to always keep their environment clean.
