NEWS PICTURES OF THE DAY : Gov Obiano Kick Starts A State-Wide Environmental Sanitation

Governor Willie Obiano has launched the State-wide Special Environmental Clean-up Exercise.

The Exercise which took place at Eke-Awka Market later saw the Governor inspecting sanitation activities and clearing of blocked drainages at Obunagu Awka by Anambra Indigenous Actors and at UNIZIK Gate Ifite Awka by the University Community in collaboration with Miss Anambra Queen, Chidinma Okeke.

Speaking at the event, Governor Obiano explained that the exercise is consistent with his administration's stance in ensuring healthy and sustainable environment in the state through the collective efforts of both Government and the people.

According to the Governor, it has now become more imperative for Ndi Anambra to embrace wholesome environmental habits and shun acts capable of degrading the environment especially now that the rains have set in.

Speaking at Obunagu Awka, Governor Obiano while commending the Indigenous Actors for the humanitarian gesture, called on other organisations to emulate them.

The Governor later inspected opening of a major drainage at the intersection between Ngozika Housing Estate Phases One and two.

The blocked drainage which usually results in the flooding of the entire area was opened with a Swamp Buggy and the water connected to a nearby stream.

Speaking after the inspection, Governor Obiano said the intervention was to forestall further escalation of the challenge and appealed to residents of the area to desist from dumping refuse inside drainages.
