State Govt To Offset Hospital Bills Of Football Fans Involved In Motor Accident Over The Weekend

The State Government is to offset the hospital bills of fans of Community Secondary School, Aguluezechukwu involved in a motor accident over the weekend.

 

Governor Willie Obiano made the promise when he visited the injured fans receiving treatment at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka.

The accident had occurred last Saturday as the fans were on their way to Rojenny International stadium, Oba for the Finals of the State Sports Academicals Cup to cheer up their team.

 

Out of the seven persons brought to the hospital, two have been discharged, four are still receiving treatment for various degrees of injuries while the Coach of the team who was critically injured has been transferred to a hospital in Enugu.

Speaking after he was conducted round the ward, Governor Obiano, who explained that the visit was to ascertain first-hand, the condition of the injured persons, thanked God that no lives were lost as a result of the accident.

 

The Governor commended the Hospital's management for the effective manner they administer the affairs of the hospital and assured that his government will sustain its support towards upgrading the hospital to a World-class institution.

Governor Obiano also, during the visit, promised to offset the hospital bills of some patients who have been there for long due to their inability to fund their medical requirements.

According to the Governor, his government will, next month be launching the Universal Health Insurance Scheme in the State to avail Ndi Anambra quality and affordable health services.

 

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr Lawrence Ikeakor thanked Governor Obiano for his administration's intervention that has assisted the hospital to secure accreditation and improve its services, adding that the hospital is poised to drive health development agenda of his government.

In their separate responses, One of the injured persons who is a senior student of the School, Mr Makuochukwu, and Mrs Ceceilia Nnanyelugo whose surgery fees the Governor promised to pay, thanked him for his magnanimity towards them and prayed God to reward him immensely.
