Anambra East Communities Under Siege


Several acres of farmland and houses have been submerged by flood at Enugwu-Otu, Eziagulu-Otu and Nkpunando communities in Anambra East local government area.

This pathetic scenarios were witnessed by a fact finding team of the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA which visited the flood ravaged communities yesterday . ...
Addressing stakeholders of the riverine communities in the local government area, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Chief Paul Odenigbo noted that the flood impact assessment team was sent to the area by Governor Willie Obiano, who himself is the statutory chairman of SEMA.
Chief Odenigbo assured them that the governor would quickly and positively attend to their plight and challenges. 

 For his part, a member of the delegation and a director in the agency, Barrister Chukwudi Onyejekwe ,also assured the flood victims that their predicament would be promptly reported to the headquarters of the National Emergency Management Agency, Abuja, for necessary intervention by the federal government.
Barrister Onyejekwe disclosed that SEMA flood assessment team would soon visit some communities in Ihiala local government area on another fact finding mission, to communities devastated by flood in the area. Responding on behalf of the people of Enugwu-Otu, Eziagulu-Otu and Nkpunando communities, their spokesman, Mr. Benjamin Onyenwife ,expressed gratitude to Governor Obiano for his caring nature and responsiveness. Mr. Onyenwife said the three communities are eargerly waiting for palliatives from the State and federal governments to cushion the adverse effects of this year's flood disaster at Aguleri-Otu.
