Since the creation of the present Anambra state on the twenty seventh of August 1991, she has been governed by seven helmsmen either as military administrators or democratically elected governors. They were in the saddle in the following sequence: retired Navy Captain Joseph Abulu, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Colonel Mike Attah, Group Captain Rufai Garba, Wing Commander Emmanuel Ukaegbu, Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, Dr. Chris Ngige, Sir Peter Obi and the incumbent governor,Chief Willie Obiano. A former deputy governor of the state, Dame Virgie Etiaba was fortuitously sworn in as a substantive governor of the state when her principal, Sir Peter was illegally impeached in November 2016.
Even as Anambra state is marking her silver Jubilee this year, it is expected that all her former chief executives, who incidentally are all still alive and, hail and hearty would join Governor Obiano in the aesthetically transformed Awka capital city, sometime this month, to celebrate the grand finale of the twenty fifth anniversary of the state. Happily, Obiano has unstintingly, in a conscious and deliberate manner, sustained and promoted very respectful and cordial relationship with all his predecessors, former deputy governors and other eminent citizens as well as elder statesmen of the state's extraction.
Little wonder virtually all of them are speaking eloquently and glowingly about the good qualities of the governor and the achievements of his administration. As a matter of fact, a former Vice President of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, the foremost Nigerian constitutional lawyer, Professor Ben Nwabueze, a former Vice president of the World Bank and education minister, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili and the incumbent national secretary of a faction of the People Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ben-Ndi Obi in addition to Senator Annie Okonkwo among others have publicly acknowledged the good nature and outstanding accomplishments of the present Anambra state government under Dr. Obiano's watch. They have also, irrespective of political affiliations and differences, called on the citizenry to sustain their unflinching support for the governor, as a way of motivating him to take his knack for delivery of democracy dividends to a higher pedestal.
It is worthy of note that in spite of the recent mischievous and desperate attempts by certain political jobbers to generate bad blood and foist a dangerous misunderstanding between Governor Obiano and his immediate predecessor, Sir Obi, the reigning Anambra state chief executive has always and consistently praised and acknowledged the excellent performance of ex-governor Obi and the commendable role he played in ensuring that he succeeded him as the governor of the state on March 17, 2014.
Evidences of Governor Obiano's deep respect and moves for raproachmemt between him and Sir Peter are legion. It is on record that on the 3rd of August this year, Obiano in an event witnessed by hundreds of old boys of Christ the King College, CKC, Onitsha, in a rare display of humility and sublime courage pleaded with former Governor Obi to forgive him, if he had in any way unknowingly offended him. That was during a requim mass for the first indigenous principal of the famous college, late Very Reverend Nicholas Tagbo. Again on the 3rd of November 2016, Obiano told a high powered Agulu delegation, led by Igwe Innocent Obodoakor, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia, that, their son was a great governor, a remarkable achiever and his bosom friend, who he would ever remain eternally grateful to.

It is equally a truism that immediately after his election as the governor of the state, Obiano and his wife, Chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme), took their Aguleri kinsmen including Igwe Christopher Idigo to ex-governor Obi to express gratitude for his invaluable roles in making him his successor. Indeed, Governor Obiano is a man of peace, gratitude, humility, compassion and deep respect.
This obviously explains why his relationship with former governors Ezeife, Mbadinuju, Ngige, Etiaba and former deputy governor, Emeka Sibeudu is very chummy. These ex-governors and deputy governor have, more or less, on different occasions publicly mobilized support for Obiano and even endorsed him for a second term in office from March 17th 2018. For instance, Ezeife and Sibeudu as well as former Vice President Ekwueme were approvingly present at the Ekwulobia stadium when the Old Aguata Union, OAU, endorsed Obiano for second term and conferred him with the traditional title of AGUNECHEMBA. Similarly, former Governor Virgie Etiaba threw her full weight behind the adoption of Obiano by the Federation of Old Nnewi Division, FOND, for the next governorship race at the Nnewi High School field, Nnewi. The fifteen royal fathers of communities in that division, led by Igwe Kenneth Orizu, the Third of Nnewi, on that historic event conferred the traditional title of DIKE ORA Ndigbo on Governor Obiano.
It is worthy of note that the full entitlements of ex-governors Mbadinuju and Ngige which for inexplicable reasons were withheld by a previous administration have been graciously restored by Governor Obiano, who also ordered the reinstatement of Dr. Ngige's portraits on the walls for former and incumbent governors of Anambra state, at the Government House and Governor's Lodge, Awka and Amawbia respectively. With all these, Akpokuedike has made more friends than enemies as the governor of the state. Unlike many of his potential rivals in the 2017 gubernatorial poll, Obiano has no baggage to impede his re-election. Therefore his imminent victory in the forthcoming election is a done deal#
