Gov Obiano Attributes His Achievements To Employment Of Best Practices In Finance Management

Governor Willie Obiano says a lot has been achieved under his watch with the State's meagre resources due to his administration's resolve to adopt best practices in finance management.

The governor was speaking when he received a delegation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Exco Chambers of the State Government House, Awka.
The delegation led by the ICAN National President, Deacon Titus Soetan was in the state to evaluate the operations of its two Districts and their members in Awka and Onitsha, in line with its mandate as a regulatory body for Accountants in the country.

Receiving his guests, Governor Obiano said it is a fact that the Anambra economy remains one of the most viable in the country despite the present economic recession due to the kind of policies his administration had introduced that have ensured transparency, accountability and focus in the state governance.
He said the State Government is committed to supporting the job training activities for civil servants under its employ and will assist those interested to sit for professional examinations to boost their competence.
Commending the Institute for its role at promoting professionalism in the accounting profession, Governor Obiano assured that the state will continue to support them as its resources permit.
Earlier, the President of the Institute, Deacon Soetan said ICAN under his leadership is being repositioned to effectively drive the campaign for government and other public sector entities to adopt best practices in accounting services especially the International Public Sector Accounting Standards, IPSAS, used in the preparation of general purpose financial statements.

He lauded Governor Obiano's efforts at entrenching probity and accountability in the state governance, evident in his administration's ability to meet its statutory responsibilities and said the visit was to seek partnership with the State in ensuring that its workers manning finance offices are duly trained and by so doing, achieve efficiency.
In a vote of thanks, the Commissioner for Finance and Development Finance Institutions, Mr Ifeatu Onejeme noted that the State Government under the visionary leadership of Governor Obiano, will continue to avail itself the opportunity of gainful partnerships towards improving the welfare of Ndi Anambra.
The governor was during the visit presented with souvenirs by the ICAN National body and the two state District Societies.
